Kiln haul 🤩 I arrived back in London after a few weeks away and couldn’t help rushing to the studio that evening to see how these pieces had turned out. These are Faux Celadon and Bruised Peach glazes on flecked stoneware. I think I’ll be making more for the upcoming Turning Earth market.

This subtle, semi-matte blush pink glaze is one of my favourites. It called Blush Rutile and is one of the studio glazes at Turning Earth. But frustratingly it’s a little temperamental and hasn’t always come out perfectly over the last few months, often looking too white and shiny, like it’s been over-fired. I hope it was just a bad batch as I’m craving more of this gentle colour and smooth, strokable surface.

I like the contrast of textures here between the smooth creamy satin glaze and waves of stormy, glossy, reactive glaze. It didn’t come out exactly how I expected it to (I was hoping for sharp geometric lines) but I’m learning to love the surprise results.

After a month away with my family in the balmy drizzle of Ireland and Scotland, I’m eager to get back to the studio, to get my hands dirty, to pick up certain projects where I left off and see how some pieces turned out. I’ll have to wait a few more weeks until school starts to get some proper studio time but I’m already thinking about some upcoming commissions.

One of these mugs was dipped a little too deep in the glaze bucket, so when it vitrified in the kiln the glaze dribbled down and stuck the whole mug to the kiln shelf and had to be smashed off 🙈

After a glorious break in the countryside with family, I’m looking forward to getting back to the studio tomorrow. This vase was commissioned by a friend (and she loves it!). I now have another similar commission in progress. Let’s hope it hasn’t dried out too much in the heatwave!
